The Allen Research Group focuses on a wide range of topics within Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, with particular emphasis on those affecting children with congenital heart defects. Our work includes developing bioactive biomaterials, particularly “personalized biomaterials” tailored to individual patients’ biological factors. We emphasize sex-based differences in cell-material interactions. Additionally, we are involved in creating DNA-based technologies, from using DNA for cell signaling to incorporating it into hydrogel formulations. Finally, we explore cellular mechanobiology under dynamic conditions, such as microgravity in space.
