The Allen lab is interested in the self-assembly of single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) and collagen. Termed Nucleic Acid-Collagen Complexes (NACCs), we are exploring their material properties and promising bioactivity, particularly with aptamer-specific ssDNA oligonucleotides. Existing work suggests NACC-induced cell signaling applications in bone tissue engineering and angiogenic-like endothelial cell phenotypes.
